  • I would do the weekly research checks and blogs so I don't almost not graduate

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors? Be specific and use examples.
  • I do like physical therapy and would recommend it to people, but now I know I might not like that field of work. I also learned that I love playing with kids, which really solidifies my dreams of being a stay at home dad.

What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
  • I saw the differences of what makes a good therapist, a good environment for the patient (and the family), and what the treatments and goals are for different specialties compared to my old mentorship.
How has what you've done helped you to answer your EQ? Please explain.
  • I got to have first hand experience with how the therapist works with the patient and how the relationship of the therapist and the patient's family is even more relevant than I thought.

Blog 21: Exit Interview

(1) What is your essential question, and what are your answers? What is your best answer and why?
  • My question is "What is the best way for a physical therapist to maximize patient satisfaction?"
  • My answers (in order) are a having a good customer relationship, having a good environment, and making good business decisions.
  • My best answer is my first one because it's what the patient is most impacted by.
(2) What process did you take to arrive at this answer?
  • My own logic and thinking, research, and mentorship.
(3) What problems did you face? How did you resolve them?
  • I couldn't think of a good third answer. I had to dig REALLY deep in my research on what else could affect the patient.
(4) What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
  • My mentor and one of my very first articles. My mentor always talked with the patient's family before and after the session, which is something the I noticed the students didn't do frequently. The article I am referring was the first time I found out that how much better the patient got after the treatments had no correlation with how much the patient was satisfied with their treatments.

April Blog

During the last day with my mentor, there were 2 students who were there with me. These university students were aspiring to be real physical or occupational therapists and were going to school to do so. A requirement to get your license is that you have to volunteer in multiple clinics for a # of hours in each one. Both of them were white girls that both had some experiences with horses, but I think these factors are a lot more likely because we were in Norco. Both of them didn't know if they would go into pediatric therapy, but they did enjoy their time there. They specifically enjoyed the ranch and working with the horses. How the workers feel and act in the workplace has a big effect on how the patient and the family feel and respond to what's happening in front of them.

  •   I found many sources for my WB and took notes on most of them in a notebook.

INTERPRETIVE
Defend your work and explain the component's significance and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work. Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
  • I probably would've transferred from Ipoly if I didn't put in the work in my independent component. I didn't want to do it many times and it was hard and painful to do and that's why it counts as work.

APPLIED
How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.

  • Some of the sources I found will be used as citations because they provided useful information that will help me support my answers. One of them states that the therapist-patient relationship is more important than the actual treatment for treatment success, which is very helpful in supporting my first answer. Another one of my sources has a lot of info about the environment in a facility which helps support my second answer.

March Blog

April Fools! It's still March 31st.
I met a girl that was disabled and used a walker to walk. What was special about her was that her knee caps were nonexistent. She kinda looked like those half goat, half human creatures in mythologies and it was pretty interesting because she didn't just do physical therapy. She also did occupational therapy, where kids work on doing daily activities, like tying shoes, writing, and listening. My mentor told me even though some kids need physical therapy, she will recommend the doctor to give them occupational therapy because they don't focus enough, or they don't respond. She also said that physical and occupational therapy goes hand in hand a lot of the time.
