Blog 14: Independent Component 1

LITERAL
(a) I, Michael Sadrach, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 20.25 hours of work
(b) My mentor and coworkers
(c) Done
(d) I assisted the physical therapist or occupational therapist on handling the patient during each session

INTERPRETIVE
I experienced first hand how the therapists interacted with the patients and how they deal with each one individually. I learned how their attitude may change to fit a child's needs and how they work together with the parents of the patients. The proof of my hours is here.

APPLIED
I saw that it is not just the physical therapist's treatments that will make the patient and their family satisfied. It's how they are treated is what causes them to be satisfied. Sometimes, the kids have tantrums and are just not cooperating. We either keep on going with the session with more awareness or get off the horse completely, depending on what the parents feels is right. There are also factors that are out of the hands of the therapists, which is where I come in. How I act with the child can drastically change the mood of the patient and the family. When I first started there, I was helping this girl and let's call her "Mel". I was having a good time with Mel and she was having fun talking to me. When she came back the next week, her mom told me that she talked about me the whole car ride home since I was new. Even though it was a little thing, They are more happy that way.
